Lutron Focuses on Home Technology for Every Level

Posted by Jimm Reifsnyder

Recently Crestron’s president and CEO Randy Klein stated that his company is going to abandon the residential market as well as the CEDIA show, siting "Crestron only wants to focus on the high-end fragment of the market."

Since Crestron only wants to be part of the high-end market: Where does that leave the residential market that they adamantly advertise to? Doesn't it call into question how the high-end clients will gain exposure for their products? Further, doesn't this decision to only go high-end and to not participate in the CEDIA shows alienate potential new installers?

This is where Lutron comes into play. Lutron is a technology-centered and people-driven company. Their light control products range from individual dimmers to total light management systems that control entire building complexes. Lutron caters to multiple audiences in the commercial and residential markets. The way Lutron cares for their customers and products reflects the five principles that they were built on; take care of the customer with superior goods and services, take care of the company, take care of the people, innovate with high quality, and deliver value to the customer.

Lutron has paved the way to provide many innovative lighting systems for every level of consumer. Caseta® Wireless is used in a more relaxed home setting. It allows you to control your lights from wherever you are. Anyone can use these systems to personalize scenes to control multiple lights and shades together with the touch of a button. HomeWorks® is used in a more high-end setting allowing luxury homeowners to bring in a sophisticated lighting system. The designer style controls can also enhance the décor and compliment the home. These technologies can be used in commercial or residential settings, once again showing that Lutron can service at every level.

Homeworks_overview_photo.jpgThe approach that Crestron takes is an exact opposite to the approach that Lutron takes. Lutron can help an entire market and at every level. They range from helping the every day, average homeowner to the high-end, luxury homeowner and then everything in between. Lutron is successful because of the company’s commitment to its customers. Since the beginning, the company has maintained exceptional service, offering 24-hour technical support for its products, and a friendly customer service department that sustains close relationships with Lutron clients. This is what sets Lutron apart from Crestron. Lutron is there to provide quality products to every market instead of just focusing on one.

It is now possible to install a device to control your lighting needs without going through the hassle of re-wiring your building with complicated applications. The LED Driver is key to the performance of your fixture and the success of your lighting project. Take control of the global LED opportunity with Lutron’s full line of LED drivers.

Design Flexibility
  • Individual fixture control or zone control helps you design LEDs into systems alongside fluorescent and other lighting sources. Individual fixture control with EcoSystem
  • Easier to wire than 0–10V; two control wires with no polarity or topology restrictions
  • Rezone without rewiring
  • Lutron LED drivers provide longer life and smoother dimming performance than any screw-in LED bulb

Collaboration with all Fixture Manufacturers

Outstanding Performance and Reliability
  • Look to the full line of Lutron drivers to deliver outstanding performance and reliability
  • Lutron drivers also offer system design flexibility to meet the needs of every application, backed by exceptional service and support wherever, whenever you need it

Flicker-Free, High-Performance Dimming
  • High-performance, low-end dimming is only valuable if the output is flicker-free
  • Analog communication methods cannot maintain a low-end light level as well as digital methods; 0–10V control is susceptible to noise, which causes perceptible flicker at very low light levels
Screen-Shot-2016-06-02-at-2.48.06-PM.png
Lutron LED Drivers deliver smooth, flicker-free, high-performance dimming, with outstanding quality and superior reliability. Experience incandescent-like dimming with Soft-on, Fade-to-Black technology that is available in most new models. Lutron LED drivers, which are available in fixtures from over 300 manufacturers globally, offer the flexibility of zone-control with 2-wire or 3-wire dimmers or individually addressable fixtures with EcoSystem digital control.

Ecosystem Technology is a control method for LEDs that provides addressing of individual fixtures and status feedback from the LED drivers. This makes it easy to digitally assign occupany sensors, daylight sensors, time clocks, manual controls, and other controls to one or many fixtures without complicated wiring. This opens up an entire suite of energy-saving, system-monitoring, and system-control schemes where the design, setup, and rezoning are all done within software, making the electrical and control design simple.

Lutron Provides Futuristic Features for Your Home

Posted by Jimm Reifsnyder

Mar 10, 2016 11:29:43 AM

We’re well into the 21st Century and some of us are disappointed that we still don’t have access to the flying cars we fell in love with while watching The Jeston’s on TV all those years ago. But just because you can’t have the Jetson’s flying car, doesn’t mean you can’t have their house—or at least a lot of the conveniences that any “jet-aged” family would want. That is where Lutron and Caseta Wireless can make these dreams become realities.
spaceshipcasetawirelessbold.png
Lutron is a technology-centered company with light control products that range from individual dimmers to total light management systems that can control an entire building. Caseta Wireless is a product created by Lutron that can become the brain of your automated home. Caseta Wireless allows anyone to control their lights and other home systems from wherever you are. It controls and monitors systems in your home to maximize your safety, comfort, convenience, and energy savings. Imagine being able to automate features such as lighting, wireless thermostats, and remote control shades.

Using the Lutron app on your smart phone, tablet, or Apple Watch you can control lights, shades, and temperature from anywhere. Peace of mind, comfort, and convenience can all be in the palm of your hand, or right on your wrist. The Lutron app can also schedule lights and shades to automatically adjust at set times of day. You can turn your outdoor lights on at sunset, then turn them off at sunrise. Lastly, the temperature control feature can provide increased convenience and energy savings. Lower your thermostat from work, to save energy during the day. Then raise it before you leave, for a comfortable welcome home. In short, you have all the automation you want—but you’re still in control.

As a Lutron and Caseta Wireless distributor, Western Lighting and Energy Controls is pleased to be able to offer tech savvy and environmentally conscious residents of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties a full array of smart home controlled systems.

You can learn more about Caseta Wireless by clicking here. We can’t promise you a flying car, but the home of the future can be yours today!

A Sensor For Every Project

Posted by Matt Sedlock

Jan 13, 2016 10:09:31 AM

Having the right lighting components can make all the difference. When you leave your home or the office, are you sure all the lights have been turned off? Or what about when you are walking into a dark room, wouldn't it be nice for the lights to automatically turn on for you?

Lutron is several occupancy sensors that can fulfill those needs.

Lutron offers a variety of in-wall and wall/ceiling mounted light sensors for any space in commercial and residential buildings. These sensors include sensor switches, dual-circuit switches, and dimmers. The in-wall sensor is called the Maestro Occupancy/Vacancy Sensor, while there are four wall/ceiling mounted sensors called the Radio Powr Savr Wireless Sensor, LOS W Series Wired Sensors, LOS C Series Wired Sensors, and the Wired High Bay Occupancy Sensors.

0_10v.pngThe Maestro Occupancy/Vacancy Sensors are a great way to save energy in a home or commercial space. They automatically turn on when you enter a room and then turn off when you leave, which are ideal for busy office spaces and rooms in your home that are used the most. The latest Maestro Sensor is the 0-10V Dimmer Sensor. This product combines 0-10V dimming and PIR sensing to create a simple solution to your lighting needs. Lutron uses XCT sensing technology and adaptive settings to provide a product that knows when to turn off and on. It even knows when to dim the lighting in a room. It is almost like the product learns about you personally and it will adapt to your habits. Installation is simple and this system will continue to be more and more cost effective as time goes on.

The Radio Powr Savr Wireless Sensor allows optimum light control, targeting bigger spaces like office buildings that can be draining energy every day. This device has sensors that recognizes if the room is being used or not. This means not worrying about turning the lights off and on because the sensors automatically do it for you. The newest version of the Ceiling-mount Occupancy/Vacancy Sensor is made to look smaller but don't be fooled, it still has as much power. The smaller edition of the sensor will make less of an impact on your home design as it is made to be somewhat discreet. Matt Sedlock of Western Lighting & Energy Controls says, "With many office building spaces remaining unoccupied between 40% and 70% of the day, lights left on are a real drain. Lutron wireless occupancy/vacancy sensors automate the switching and dimming of those lights, saving energy and money."

The LOS W Series Occupancy Sensor are more likely to be used in spaces with fixtures, ceiling fans, or high ceilings. The LOS wall mount sensors all have self-adaptive technology that eliminates the need for manual range adjustment. After proper mounting, the sensors automatically adjust to sensitivity and timing to prevent false-off and false-on conditions. This product offers many features such as:
  • Range of 1600 ft² if mounted at 8–12 ft from floor
  • 8-second test mode to easily confirm proper operation
  • Model with additional output (dry contact closure) available
  • Non-volatile memory (saved changes are stored during loss of power)
  • Integrate with Lutron systems (no power pack needed) or function as stand-alone controls using a Lutron power pack
  • 20-24 VDC, class 2 (PELV) low-voltage wiring
  • Self-adaptive sensors automatically adjust sensitivity and timing
  • Passive infrared (PIR), or dual-technology (PIR and US)
The LOS C Series Occupancy Sensor is a ceiling mount occupancy sensor that can either be used with the Lutron systems, where no power pack is needed, or it can be used as a stand-alone control using a Lutron power pack. The LOS ceiling mount sensors all have self-adaptive technology that eliminates the need for manual
adjustments. After correct mounting, the sensors automatically adjust sensitivity and timing to prevent false-off and false-on conditions. This product offers many features such as:
  • ceilmoloscseries_01_medth.jpgSelf-adaptive sensors automatically adjust sensitivity and timing
  • Passive infrared (PIR), ultrasonic (US) or dual technology (DT)
  • Range from 450–2,000 ft² (mounted on an 8–12 ft ceiling)
  • 8-second test mode to easily confirm proper operation
  • Model with additional output (dry contact closure) available
  • Non-volatile memory (saved changes are stored during loss of power)
  • 20-24 VDC, class 2 (PELV) low-voltage wiring

The Wired High Bay Occupancy Sensor is designed to provide automatic control of fixtures in warehouses, distribution centers, gymnasiums, and similar facilities. The sensor can integrate with Lutron lighting control systems or function as stand-alone control by using a Lutron power pack. This product offers many features such as:
  • Low-voltage occupancy sensor with passive infrared (PIR) sensing technology for major motion detection
  • Affords choice of turning lights off or dimming to preset level in unoccupied state when integrated to Lutron lighting control system
  • Supports mounting heights up to 45 ft.
  • End-mount and surface-mount versions available with 180 or 360 degrees lens option
  • 360 degree lens coverage - 50 ft. radius at 45 ft. mounting height
  • 180 degree lens coverage - 2900 ft. radius  at 45 ft. mounting height
  • 8-second test mode to easily confirm proper operation
  • Adjustable timeout for maximum energy savings, available timeout options are 4-, 8-, 16-, or 30-minutes
Lutron has been leading the way in energy and lighting efficiency for more than fifty years. It is becoming essential for homes and businesses to adapt to the new technologies that Lutron has produced time and time again. You can upgrade to any of their products with a quick and easy installment without sacrificing the style or convenience of your preferred space.
